Privacy Policy
Effective 12 October 2026
SpaceWise does not collect, store on any server, sell or share any information about you or your files. This policy explains what the app does with data on your Mac.
No network access
SpaceWise makes no network connections. It has no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising, accounts or sign-in. Nothing you scan ever leaves your Mac through SpaceWise.
What SpaceWise reads
- File and folder names, sizes and dates in the folders you choose to scan. macOS only lets the app see folders you select.
- File contents only when you ask it to find duplicates, and only to compare files on your Mac.
- For “What is this?”, information macOS already keeps about a file, such as its type, when it was last opened, the website it was downloaded from (only the site name) and which app it belongs to. File contents aren’t read.
What SpaceWise stores on your Mac
- Scan history: folder names and sizes from past scans, kept so you can compare them. It keeps the last 30 scans of each location.
- Saved locations: permission to reopen folders you chose, so you don’t have to pick them again.
- Settings: your preferences, such as the appearance.
All of this lives only in the app’s own folder
(~/Library/Containers/com.dashapramati.SpaceWise). You can delete scan history and saved
locations at any time in SpaceWise › Settings, and removing that folder removes everything.
Apple Intelligence
On Macs with Apple Intelligence turned on, “What is this?” explanations are written by Apple’s on-device language model, from the information listed above. This happens entirely on your Mac. You can turn it off in SpaceWise › Settings › Privacy & Data.
Links and email
The Help menu and About window can open this website or a new email to us in your browser or mail app, only when you click them. Feedback emails contain the app and macOS versions and whatever you choose to write; no scan results or file names are added. We use what you send only to reply and to improve SpaceWise.
Mac App Store
SpaceWise is distributed through the Mac App Store. Apple handles the download and updates under Apple’s own privacy policy. Apple may share aggregated, anonymous statistics with developers, such as download counts, and, only if you agree to share them with developers, crash reports. We don’t receive any information that identifies you.
Children
SpaceWise collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update it here with a new effective date.
