Have a question, found a bug or have an idea? Email kiran@dashapramati.com, or choose Help › Send Feedback… in SpaceWise, which fills in your app and macOS versions for you. Please describe what you did and what you expected; don’t send files you’d rather keep private.
Common questions
Why are some items listed as “couldn’t be read”?
macOS protects some folders, such as Mail, Messages and other apps’ data. SpaceWise works without access to them and lists what it couldn’t read under Details, so the total it shows can be lower than what the disk actually uses. SpaceWise doesn’t need Full Disk Access.
I moved something to the Trash by mistake. Can I get it back?
Yes, until you empty the Trash. Open the Trash in the Dock, select the item and choose File › Put Back. SpaceWise never deletes anything permanently.
Why didn’t my free space go up after cleaning?
Items in the Trash still use space until you empty it. After that, macOS may take a moment to update, and some space can stay in use because of local Time Machine snapshots, files shared between copies, or hard links. That’s why SpaceWise labels recoverable space as an estimate.
Why won’t SpaceWise let me move some items?
System files, app bundles and data that apps manage themselves (for example inside
~/Library/Containers or an app’s own package) are protected, because removing part of them can
break the app. Remove the app itself, or use its own settings, instead.
What do the three advisor levels mean?
Likely safe to review: caches and build output that apps recreate. Review carefully: installers, archives and downloads that are often no longer needed but might be your only copy. Keep unless you’re sure: camera originals, documents and app data. The advisor only explains; you decide.
“What is this?” says Apple Intelligence isn’t available.
Explanations written on your Mac need macOS 26 or later on a Mac that supports Apple Intelligence, with it turned on in System Settings. Otherwise SpaceWise shows its own built-in explanation, and the verdict is the same either way.
Who is responsible if I remove something important?
You are. SpaceWise never removes anything on its own: it only moves items you chose and confirmed to the Trash. Its suggestions are a guide, not a guarantee, so check each item, keep a backup of anything important, and look in the Trash before emptying it. See the terms of use.
Does SpaceWise send my data anywhere?
No. It has no network access at all. See the privacy policy.
How do I update SpaceWise?
Updates arrive through the Mac App Store. Turn on automatic updates in App Store › Settings, or open the App Store and choose Updates. See what’s new in each version.
How do I uninstall SpaceWise?
Quit SpaceWise and move it from Applications to the Trash (or delete it in Launchpad). To also remove its scan history and settings,
delete the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.dashapramati.SpaceWise.
